Lee has been playing trumpet since grade school. His mother encouraged him
to play in the school band when she realized he had musical talent. He has a degree
in music from Drake University, under the tutelage of trumpet master Robert Weast.
He is also a self-taught sax and flute player.
He has performed with: Tower of power (playing lead trumpet), Clark Terry,
Bill Stewart, Dick Oatts, Bobby Shew, Walter White, Peter Noone, Fabian, Del
Shannon, The Des Moines Big Band, and The Outsiders (Time Won’t Let Me Go). He
also performed with Fat Tuesday and the Greasefire Horns at the International
Blues Championships in Memphis.
Lee is very excited about playing with Grand Daddy Jack, having the
opportunity to perform on all of his instruments and play covers as well as original
Lee Hansend on Saxophone
